This sculpture by Ellen Tykeson honors Oregon State University alumnus Dick Fosbury for his historic gold medal victory in the high jump at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City.

The work depicts Fosbury’s innovative high-jumping technique, known as the “Fosbury Flop”, at the height at which Fosbury won the gold medal. His bronze image soars over a high jump bar 7 feet, 4 1/4 inches off the ground.

The Fosbury sculpture is located outside the Dixon Recreation Center on the Oregon State campus.
